my first attempt at some slam poetry

This is unedited and really awful and not written in any type of verse with any type of decent language but I thought I’d put it up anyway.

When people say to me “Smile, be happy, it’s not going to be bad forever.” I want to spit in their mouth.

Of course this won’t be this bad forever,

in four months I will wonder why I was ever upset

in four months I will be living a new life

but right now I am upset. Right now I am living this life. Right now every time someone says to me “You just need to relax, you just need to breathe” I want to take a deep breath and scream in their face: “YOU DO NOT KNOW THIS FIRE. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE FLAMES LICKING AT MY HEART AND MIND LIKE A SERPENT READY TO CONSTRICT, RESTRICT MY POINT OF VIEW AND THREATEN EVERY ATOM THAT GOT JUMBLED TOGETHER TO CREATE ME. You do not know… You do not know me.”

People will say “I’m here for you” people will say “if you ever need to talk I’ll listen” But after a while no one wants to hear the crazy ramblings of a self diagnosed depressed girl who can’t keep herself from shattering into a million pieces like a snowball made of sand.

They will listen for a while. They will hold you when you cry for the first time. They will stay up late talking, so the fits you have on your wrists don’t limit your wardrobe to cardigans in the 80 degree heat.

the 5th time you have a nervous breakdown they will try and relate. Try to expunge your pain because theirs was somehow more.

By the 10th they will try and give you harsh facts. That just because he flirts doesn’t mean he likes you. That just because you give 100% doesn’t mean it will be enough. That sometimes life kicks you right in the empty space in your gut that he left, reminding you of how empty you are. And somehow you are supposed to find solace in these soulless remarks.

after the 10th there is no one to talk to

no one wants to wipe your tears because when you’re flung into that deep abyss all you can do is sneer and toss insults like knives, because if you keep people away no one can hurt you more.

people will disappoint you.

Friends who say they care about you will do nothing but put what they want first, even though you thrust your wrist with all the countless scars they caused before you like a list of every reason they should rethink being selfish.

Friends will see you crying and not do anything at all

Friends will tell you “I’m just trying to have a good time” “I can do what I want with my life”

Friends will not run after you when you turn and walk away.

Friends will hurt you

and hurt you

until you are so broken

that they can’t remember

who you were

before it all

began.

This is the end of something I’ve been working on. This story is actually told from the point of view of a guy. I wanted to challenge myself so yea. Sorry this isn’t much but it’s the best snippet I could find.

I didn’t set out to have an adventure. I didn’t set out to be anything but normal. I didn’t set out to change. But changing isn’t your decision. It’s the universes decision. Never in a million years did I expect to meet Pierce, or anyone like her. But there I was stranded in the middle of nowhere, and suddenly the sun rose on my existence, the universe pointed a golden finger to what road I should take. My story was told in truck stops and Hardees’, not country clubs and coffee houses. My story wasn’t mine. I was just an empty book and Pierce was the pen, full of ink and reckless abandon, ready to write what the universe flung us into.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all of this, it’s that when the universe is pushing you toward something, it’s pointless to try and turn and run. Because one way or another, it’ll put you right back where it wanted you to be. So if you can’t stop it, the only thing you can do is let yourself go, and float on into the unknown, knowing that somehow someway, the universe will shed a light.

I actually just wrote a slam poem but it is the most awful thing ever cause it’s my first slam poem. But I WILL write up a short little story of sorts :)

i think about this post at the most inappropriate times and it has ruined my life
